TechBlog #3 | Limitations of the Timoshenko Beam Theory – FE Shaft Calculations

In the FVA-Workbench, the Timoshenko beam theory is used to calculate the deformation of most common shaft geometries. This method delivers high-quality results with quick calculations. However, user-friendly FE methods are used for more complex geometry calculations.

With the FE features of the FVA-Workbench, shafts generated within the software are internally meshed. Shafts exported from other CAD tools can also be imported and meshed. The meshing and determination of the contact nodes with the rest of the gearbox model are largely automated. The user interface has been designed with maximum efficiency in mind. A complete mesh for an FE calculation can be created in just a few clicks – without special FE knowledge.
