Increasing demands for comfort in automotive applications as well as legal requirements for stationary systems are the drivers for constant reduction of noise in gearbox development. The pursuit of the greatest possible power density leads to electromechanical drive systems with increasingly high transmission input speeds. Current gearbox design strategies are not always effective for these new conditions.

This seminar will fundamentally address the complete noise generation chain, from gear mesh excitation, through speed-dependent noise transmission through the shaft-bearing system, to noise radiation at the casing. Participants will learn criteria for evaluating excitation behavior as well as strategies for designing low-excitation gears. Building on this, it will be shown how vibration of the shaft-bearing system can already be considered in the design phase. Finally, participants will be able to evaluate the noise radiation of the casing and implement constructive optimizations. The seminar will be rounded off with a comprehensive introduction to experimental investigation of the vibration and noise behavior of gears.
