Introduction

The powertrain is one of the most important subsystems in motor vehicles. Over the last few years, a variety of drive concepts and configurations have been established. In addition to the manual transmission typically used in Europe, a wide variety of different automatic transmissions are increasingly being used. In industrial practice, this means an almost endless number of variants at the system, subsystem, and component levels. In this seminar on the basics of automotive transmissions, you will get to know the most common concepts. You will become familiar with the respective subsystems and subassemblies and with the basic design of the most important components.

Target Audience

This seminar is aimed at beginners in the automotive sector. It also offers sales and design engineers a broad overview of transmission technology in the automotive environment, with a system-wide understanding of the most important sub-assemblies and components. Seminar participants will learn about the fundamental parameters of the design and validation of automotive transmissions.

Main Topics

  • Drivetrain system configuration
  • Manual transmission assemblies
  • Automatic transmission assemblies
  • Component design
    • Starting elements
    • Gear trains
    • Structural components
    • Shifting components

Objectives

The seminar provides a broad overview of transmission technology in the automotive environment, with a system-wide understanding of the most important sub-assemblies and components. Seminar participants will learn about the fundamental parameters of the design and validation of automotive transmissions.
