Introduction

Decisions made in the early design phases can have a long-term positive influence on the key characteristics of a gearbox, such as load capacity and acoustics. This seminar will cover the basics of dimensioning important gearbox components and provide answers to the following questions:

  • What are the most important requirements to be defined when starting with a new gearbox design, and what are the quantitative and qualitative effects of changes to these requirements?
  • How are key gearbox components (such as gears, shafts, and bearings) dimensioned in initial designs, and how can they be optimized with regard to load capacity and acoustics early in the design phase?
  • What needs to be considered in an initial casing design?
  • How can the installation size and weight be estimated in the early design phases?

Target Audience

This seminar is intended for design and sales engineers who are involved in the initial design of gearbox components and would like to deepen their basic knowledge.

Main Topics

  • Cylindrical and bevel gear geometry design
  • Shaft design and dimensioning
  • Bearing selection and configuration
  • Casing and oil supply design

Objectives

  • Determination of the gear ratio distribution, including axial positions
  • Dimensioning of main gearbox components (gears, shafts, and bearings)
  • Basic casing design
  • Estimation of gearbox size and weight
