Shaft calculations

The local stress of a shaft increases when the component geometry changes, e.g at notches. If this increased stress is caused by dynamic loads, this can lead to a fatigue fracture. If the static load is too great, it can lead to permanent deformations, cracks, or forced rupture.

With the FVA-Workbench, strength verifications according to DIN 743 for shafts and axles with regard to fatigue and creep can be performed quickly and effectively. The calculation is based on the latest state of the art.

Furthermore, the overlapping notch effect for multiple notches is considered based on FVA-700. The loads on the notch can be determined by an overall system analysis. For shaft loads, the influence of the bearings and the flank load distribution are also taken into account.

Shaft-hub connections

All necessary parameters can be determined based on FVA 424 for verification of the load carrying capacity of friction-locked interference fits:

  • Transmittable torque
  • Joining temperatures
  • Stresses at standstill & under the influence of centrifugal force or temperature
  • Safeties against creep, incipient, and complete plasticity
  • Plasticity diameter

Cylindrical, tapered, and multiple interference fits can be calculated. The calculation of shaft-hub connections is based on elastic-plastic modeling of the material. Feather key connections can also be calculated according to DIN 6892.
