Gear drives are the heart of mechanical engineering, and they are used in a vast number of applications. A great number of gear variants can be used together to form gear units. The lubricants used for gear drives are equally varied. Good knowledge of both elements is required for making an optimum lubricant selection.

This course covers the basics of tribology and gear technology as well as the suitability of different lubricant types for use in gear drives. Participants will learn how to determine the optimum, or at least an appropriate, lubricant based on the tribological conditions in the gear unit and its operating conditions, as well as how to rule out unsuitable lubricants.
